Artist Statement

Tim Waskett's 'paintings' have always blurred the boundaries between traditional mediums. Most recently, he has introduced ceramic components to construct reliefs and create 'collage paintings'. Waskett is attracted to the ‘mashup,’ intrigued by the 'hodgepodge', and involved with 'the jumbling of ideas'. Ideas which somehow relate and can be made to 'sit well together' - but also are 'uneasy' and ask questions of each other.

Differences in painterly approaches, tempo, textures, 'going off the edge' versus 'the contained', ‘size’ against 'scale', 'finish' versus ‘the unfinished’, 'the arbitrary and chance' against 'the ordered, the process, and control'. Waskett uses a painterly and intuitive, yet formally knowing, approach to 'forge' poetic and fully 'abstract' outcomes - from seemingly desperate, 'disconnected' and diverse starting points, processes, and materials.
